Welcome to my Minooka 201 blog. The views expressed in this blog are my own and do not represent the views of the Minooka CCSD 201 school board, the District, the Superintendent, the National Guard, the United States Army, the Department of Defense or anyone else for that matter.
For those who feel that our schools devote too much time to testing, you "ain't seen nothin' yet." Take a look at this article, which talks about potentially testing 5-year-olds to determine their ability to succeed in college and career.
I see in the sidebar that you have two children attending D201 schools. How do you feel about the testing that takes place in your childrens' classrooms? From looking at my own kids' schedules - I'm guessing my middle grade son will have between 18-22 days of testing this year in English and math. That's more than 10% of the school year spent taking tests. On top of that, my first grader took 17 tests in 22 days at one point last year. When you factor in test prep and time to dissect the data, when are the Min201 teachers given time to teach and when are our kids learning? I would love to hear your response and have someone ask the same questions of the rest of your colleagues on the board.
